We attach our SolusVM nodes to our LDAP instance, for central management of usernames, passwords, SSH keys, and so on.

The SolusVM installer takes the "next available UID and GID" for the solusvm user. But it checks that number from the LDAP database. As the LDAP database constantly changes, this means that the locally-created UID/GID conflicts with something in LDAP.

I can see lots of ways to adjust the current behavior. Perhaps a fixed UID/GID for solusvm, or a statement that the solusvm user should exist in LDAP before installing solusvm. But the current situation of "grab the next uid" just doesn't seem correct.

For others in this situation you can set a fixed uid and gid in /etc/passwd and /etc/group, then find & chown the files. But it seems the installer should have a better way of handling this.
