Ok I originally got solusvm for hosting XEN vms but found that XEN and CentOs 6 don't run well together according to what I have found on these forums. So i have opted to utilize KVM. But after going through the admin, I am only seeing openVZ or xen options in many places - especially for templates.

Why is KVM missing from Media list?
Where can I get KVM templates - is there specific format?

Have I jumped the gun? Should I downgrade back to centos 5 and stick with XEN?

Need some advice as im getting mixed feelings when reading the docs and what people are saying on the forums.

Thanks!
The wiki mentions the use of a /scripts/vm-migrate script; however, this script doesn't seem to existing anymore. Can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Each server is having 5-6 free ip's. Total I am having 30 free IP. With the new server, I had to pay extra amount for new IP set. Can I use these 30 free IP's in the new server or is there any way to setup like that.

Controlling KVM guests IP addresses

Hello Guys,

I would need an advise for how to restrict the KVM guests from assigning their own IP addresses. So far we have one OpenVZ node and one KVM node, both controlled from SolusVM. The OpenVZ node is Master and the KVM node is Slave. We have to IP pools with /25 subnets each and both IP pools are assigned to both nodes. For instance:

192.168.1.128/25 (node 1 and 2)
192.168.2.128/25 (node 1 and 2)
(we are using real IPs but the above is just for reference).

Using OpenVZ we didn't have any issues with the VPS servers IP addresses.

However we are now implementing KVM and we are facing some problems. When we create a KVM machine, we assign IP for the machine from any of the IP pools and it correctly receives IP address from DHCP server (the KVM node's main IP) - there is no problem here.

However if we try to add second IP address from SolusVM (for the KVM virtual server) the IP is not being activated. We tried to restart the node, KVM guest and DHCP services but without success. If we do static IP addresses setup on the KVM guest, then everything is OK and works correctly, so the DHCP is not much of an issue.

The problem is that the KVM guest can activate any of the IP addresses from the two pools, regardless if the IP is configured for the KVM guest in SolusVM or not. I think we may have some wrong configuration on the KVM node but I was unable to find how to control the virtual servers IP addresses from SolusVM.

Our network configuration on the KVM node is:

================================================== =============
[root@*** etc]# ifconfig
For the virtual server in SolusVM I have set:

Main IP: 192.168.1.165
Additional IP: 192.168.1.166

However there is no problem to log into the virtual machine and statically add 192.168.1.204 from shell. The IP is being activated and accessible.

This is a big security issue as we can not allow the customers to activate any IP address they want to in their KVM servers.

Please let me know if I am missing anything or you are seeing any misconfiguration with out settings.

PS Sorry for the big post - I am just trying to provide as much information as possible.

Best Regards,
Martin

Hello,

On our Xen VPS node, the auto FTP backup feature doesn't work. Here's what the log says:

================================================== =====================
Backup Log Started : May 17 2012 01:30:02
================================================== =====================
Could not connect to master server. Is the master online with port 5656 SSL open?
================================================== =====================
Backup Log Finished : May 17 2012 01:30:02
================================================== =====================

The port 5656 is indeed open on both ends (master & node) and there are absolutely no issues controlling the containers on this node. Just the auto FTP backups don't work.

So far we've tracked this back to a failed SolusVM API call. Here's the error we get when running the backup script manually:

[root@vienna ~]# /usr/bin/php /usr/local/solusvm/includes/autoftpbackup.php
SolusVM Admin <>... User unknown

At the network level communication between the node and master is working. There's a log of the API call on the master:

46.4.28.132 46.4.168.58:5656 - [17/May/2012:19:52:01 -0400] "POST /sysapi/rd.php HTTP/1.1" 200 102 "-" "-"

But, there don't seem to be any further logs indicating why the call failed. Other API calls appear to be working, so I'm not sure what's causing this. I could find nothing in the SolusVM docs. This is possibly a bug.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

From what I have read I would need to set
CPU Units : 1600
CPU Cores: 1
CPU %: 50

for 1.6 Ghz?
